Deanna Durbin plays Patricia, the daughter of an unemployed musician. Undaunted by the situation, she persuades the patron of the arts to sponsor an entire orchestra made up of out of work musicians - but only if she can secure the services of a famous conductor. The ever-determined Patricia rises to the challenge and manages to secure the services of Leopold Stokowski (Fantasia).
